A green 17-foot Bristol Skiff caught fire this afternoon and was drifting around the mooring field in East Polpis Harbor. It managed to catch another boat on fire before it was extinguished by the Marine Department. It was then towed up onto the beach at the east parking lot at Polpis Harbor where it was still smoldering several hours later. Here are a few shots I grabbed later in the afternoon. There’s a new boat plying the waterfront. Her name is Minke. She’s a 26-foot Crosby powered by an 85-horsepower Perkins diesel motor. An interesting feature of this boat is the fact that she has a bow thruster which the captain controls via a joystick. Captain Blair Perkins owns Minke. He is running her as a harbor tour boat operating out of Straight Wharf. Blair’s son Max also runs the boat. Blair also owns the Shearwater. She’s a whale-watch boat. Here are a couple shots of Minke with Max Perkins at the helm and Shearwater steaming down the fairway after a day offshore whale watching this past Sunday.

NIGHTTIME AT THE BOAT BASIN: The horrible weather we had the entire month of June finally broke yesterday. It’s finally starting to look and feel like summer around here. I grabbed some shots of the Boat Basin tonite while I was there.
